MAKASSAR

INDONESIA
Go Back

I live in Makassar, the bustling capital of South Sulawesi, where the sea meets the city and boats glide through the harbor carrying the rhythm of life. Indonesia is vast and alive — an archipelago of thousands of islands, home to more than 300 ethnic groups and 600 languages. Our motto, “Unity in Diversity,” feels like both a celebration and a challenge. Amid this richness, faith still divides us deeply.

In recent years, persecution against followers of Jesus has grown. Terrorist cells continue to emerge, and believers in many regions worship in fear or secrecy. Yet even in hardship, the Church stands unshaken. The love of God cannot be measured, and His Gospel cannot be silenced. Here in Makassar, the people are strong and proud. The Makassarese, who form most of our city’s population, are devoted to Islam and deeply tied to tradition — one of the largest unreached people groups in all Southeast Asia.

Still, I believe this city will see revival. The same Lord who calmed the storms on Galilee can calm the storms in our land. I see God stirring hearts — through kindness, through courage, through prayer. The Gospel is quietly spreading from home to home, and light is breaking through the darkness. My prayer is that Makassar, once a port of trade and empire, will become a port of spiritual awakening for Indonesia and the nations.

Prayer Emphasis

  • Pray for the Makassarese people to encounter Jesus and find their true identity and peace in Him. (John 14:6)

  • Pray for believers in Indonesia to stand firm amid persecution and shine with unshakable faith. (Ephesians 6:13–14)

  • Pray for the Church in Makassar to grow in unity, love, and boldness as it reaches across cultural and religious barriers. (John 17:21)

  • Pray for God to dismantle the influence of extremism and raise up messengers of peace throughout South Sulawesi. (Isaiah 52:7)

  • Pray for revival to flow from Makassar’s shores — that this city would become a gateway for the Gospel to spread across Indonesia’s islands. (Habakkuk 2:14)
