When you walk the streets of Amritsar, you can almost feel the layers of history pressing against your skin. The air hums with devotion—pilgrims moving in steady streams toward the Golden Temple, its gold dome blazing in the sunlight. Every day, thousands bathe in its sacred pool, seeking cleansing and peace. Their sincerity moves me deeply, yet my heart aches because I know the peace they seek can only be found in Jesus, the true Light of the world.
Amritsar is the birthplace of Sikhism, but it’s more than that—it’s a crossroads of faith and culture, a meeting point of Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians. Just fifteen miles from the border with Pakistan, our city still carries the scars of Partition. I’ve heard elders speak of that dark time—the trains that came filled with the dead, the families that never returned, and the grief that still lingers between neighbors. Even now, mistrust runs deep, dividing hearts that were once one.
The streets are vibrant and alive—rickshaws weaving through traffic, vendors shouting over the buzz, and bright saris fluttering in the warm breeze. Yet beneath the color and movement lies pain. Children sleep along the railway tracks, widows beg in temple courtyards, and young people wander, searching for meaning in a world that feels indifferent to their suffering. I see them every day, and I pray that one day they will see Him—the One who never turns away.
Still, hope rises here. I believe God’s eyes are on Amritsar. This city of devotion and division can become a place of reconciliation and revival. I stay because I believe the same streets that echo now with prayers to false gods will one day resound with songs of worship to Jesus. The gold that glitters on the temple may fade, but His glory will never dim.
Pray for the people of Amritsar to encounter the true peace and cleansing that only Jesus can bring. (John 14:27)
Pray for healing and reconciliation among communities still scarred by the violence of Partition. (Ephesians 2:14–16)
Pray for the millions of orphans and vulnerable children across India to experience the love and care of Christ. (Psalm 68:5–6)
Pray for believers in Amritsar to live boldly and compassionately, shining light in a city of many faiths. (Matthew 5:14–16)
Pray for revival in northern India—that Amritsar would become a gateway for the Gospel into Pakistan and beyond. (Isaiah 60:1–3)
