I wake up each morning in Addis Ababa, the heart of Ethiopia. From my window, I see the city stretching out across the plateau, framed by rolling hills and distant mountains. The air is cool here—freshened by the streams and greenery that wind through our neighborhoods.
Life in Addis is busy. As the nation’s capital, it’s where decisions are made, where schools train the next generation, and where factories hum with the work that supplies not only our country but much of East Africa. Walking through the streets, I hear a dozen languages and see faces from every corner of the nation.
But the most remarkable story here is not just in the buildings or the bustling markets—it’s in the hearts of the people. My grandparents tell me that back in 1970, only about 3% of Ethiopians called themselves followers of Jesus—less than a million people in the whole country. Now, there are more than 21 million of us. Churches are full, worship rises from every neighborhood, and the move of God has touched even the most remote villages.
We’re the most populous nation in the Horn of Africa, and I believe that’s no accident. God has placed us here, at this crossroads of tribes and nations, to be a sending people—to carry the Good News to those who’ve never heard it, both within our borders and across the lands that surround us.
From my little corner in Addis Ababa, I can feel it: something bigger is unfolding.
Thanksgiving for Growth of the Church – Praise God for the remarkable increase of believers in Ethiopia, from under a million to over 21 million, and for the revival that continues to touch every corner of the nation. Pray for movement growth across the 14 languages in this city.
Strength for the Sending Mission – Pray that Ethiopia will rise as a strong sending nation, equipped and empowered to bring the Gospel to unreached tribes within its borders and to neighboring countries. Pray for Movement led Bible Translation into languages like the Harari where there is no scripture yet.
Unity Among Believers – Ask God to strengthen unity among churches across denominations, so they can work together effectively for Kingdom impact. Pray for many houses of prayer to arise and light up the darkness around this city.
Discipleship and Leadership Development – Pray for deep discipleship and for the raising up of wise, Spirit-filled leaders to shepherd the growing number of believers.
Protection and Provision – Intercede for the safety, health, and provision of Jesus following workers and families in both the cities and rural areas, especially those serving in hard-to-reach places.
